The Council and the School of Global Studies agree on the following purpose and expectations for the Dambach Peacebuilder Endowed Fellowships.
The purpose of the Dambach Peacebuilder Endowed Fellowship is the recognition and support of students who by their actions, writing or speaking demonstrate a commitment to peacebuilding in its many aspects. The Dambach Peacebuilder Endowed Fellowship encourages the study and practice of techniques and methodologies that can initiate, develop and support collaborative action at all levels of society and in disparate cultures. These include negotiation skills, non-violent dispute resolution, and the establishment and maintenance of the free and open exchange of ideas. Of the four areas of focus, or “tracks,” that are part of the graduate program curriculum, the School of Global Studies and the Council view Track 2 - Global Leadership and Development and Track 3 - Global Communication and Public Diplomacy as the most relevant for the Fellowship recipients.
During a Fellowship recipient’s course of studies, the student will perform an internship with a relevant non-governmental organization or a governmental organization focusing on global peace, poverty reduction, or related concerns.
From the pool of qualified applicants, special consideration is to be given to returning Peace Corps volunteers, students from countries in which Peace Corps volunteers have served, and residents of Oklahoma.
In addition to the normal stewardship activities conducted by the OSU Foundation, each Fellowship recipient shall participate in an annual electronic virtual meeting with the Council following the recipient’s internship. The recipients will be invited to make virtual presentations about their activities and outcomes. Such presentations may be recorded and distributed to the Dean of the School of Global Studies, donors to the Dambach Peacebuilder Endowed Fellowship Fund, and other interested individuals or groups, including prospective donors.
A Dambach Fellowship recipient must be enrolled in the master of science program in the School of Global Studies and have a strong interest in understanding the causes of international conflict, as well as methods of conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts by both governmental and non-governmental parties.
In the process of establishing the Dambach Peacebuilder Endowed Fellowship, the Council has benefited from recommendations and guidance from Dean Randy Kluver and his colleagues at the School of Global Studies.
This fellowship was established to honor Chic’s long career in international peacebuilding and diplomacy. We at OSU are very proud of our alum and Chic’s story is one that will inspire new generations of students.
